To determine what size LED grow lights you need, you first need to calculate the exact size of your growing space.
The size of your room to grow
When growing plants, a good rule of thumb is to use at least 50 watts of light per square foot of growing space.
We want to fill our plants with light (food) so they have enough energy to grow big, strong buds.
Therefore, we need to calculate the square footage (L x W) of the planting space.
We then multiply that number by 50w to get the rough wattage we need.
Example: I have a planting space that is 2 feet long and 3 feet wide. This gives me 6 square feet (2' x 3') of planting space. I then multiplied that number by 50w to get 300w. So for this example I need at least 300w LED grow lights.
Turn the grow lights on 12–16 hours a day and turn them off nightly. Plants need some rest in the dark, so it’s important to turn off lights for at least eight hours a day.
