Growing houseplants should be easy — after all, you don’t have to contend with drought or frost. But you may have one big limiting factor: a lack of quality sunlight. Fortunately, adding some grow lights for indoor plants can solve this problem, allowing plants to thrive even in darker corners of your home.
There are two main styles of LED grow lights that people tend to see in the market
Full spectrum LED grow lights
Full spectrum LED grow lights provide a range of wavelengths which are ideal for all stages of plant growth, but tends to keep your plants in the vegetative stage. This makes those lights our #1 choice for indoor plants.
Full spectrum lighting can come in daylight LEDs, but can also have a red and blue tint. We prefer our customers use the daylight style of LED. Being able to see the true colour of your plants will help you diagnose any nutrient or health issues that arise.
Red / Blue LED lights
Red and blue LED lights are more specialized, with red lights promoting flowering and fruiting, and blue lights promoting vegetative growth.
You can still use these lights, but they put out a reddish-blue light you are not able to see the proper colour of your plants without turning on supplemental lights in the room.
Not being able to see the true colour of your plant could affect your monitoring of their colour and nutrition.

Talk to enough growers and you’ll find that at least one has had a negative experience with LEDs.
Here are some of the more common disadvantages they mentioned:
#1 They’re more expensive — at first
Ask any grower why they remain loyal to HPS for growing plants, and most of them will tell you it’s because they believe LED lights are “overpriced.” Yes, the upfront cost of LEDs is an expensive investment and may scare away growers. However, if you’re in it for the long term, you’ll make up the difference over time because they’re so much more efficient. Some states offer grants for the use of LEDs in licensed facilities. As with any new technology, LED prices have been steadily dropping, rapidly closing the gap between HPS lights and their LED counterparts.
#2 Beware of Photobleaching
Remember, minor burns and thermal burns are not the same thing. LED lights have the advantage of being able to fit into compact spaces where temperatures are cooler. But if you plant your plants too close together, they can suffer minor burns, turning the vibrant green leaves an unsightly yellow or white color and ruining the potency and fragrance of each flower. Keep in mind that the latest generation of commercial LED lighting seems to avoid this problem entirely.
#3 Perceived Factory Performance
Many growers believe that LED lighting will cause their plants to have different nutritional needs or finicky performance. While this is true in some cases, growers and their plants are often used to growing under certain conditions and will need to adjust their procedures to new lighting conditions.
For example, a facility running HPS lighting may have slightly less optimal environmental conditions. Once switched to LEDs, HVAC systems can more easily optimize VPD, resulting in increased plant nutrient needs.
#4 You Might Need to Make Heat Adjustments
While the lower heat output is considered an advantage for most growers, facilities that rely on HPS lighting heat may need to introduce supplemental heating to properly nourish plants.
When you’re growing plants indoors, it’s important to use grow light strips to provide them with the light they need to grow. Not all grow light strips are created equal, so it’s important to do your research before purchasing.
If you’ve tried to find the right grow lights for your indoor plants, you surely know how difficult it can be to choose the best grow lights for tropical plants that are not only powerful enough to keep your plants alive, but also look great. Grow lights are used by indoor plant hobbyists and professional plant nurseries to supplement or completely replace natural light for growing quality plants and propagating plants. These lights stimulate photosynthesis and provide the right color spectrum for plants to grow and flourish.
Whether you use a grow light depends on the amount of natural light available in the apartment you live in and the light needs of your plants.
If you are growing plants in an apartment with small or north-facing windows (if you live in the northern hemisphere), or in a basement apartment with minimal or no light most of the day, you will want to use a houseplant light supplement Or completely replace natural light. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere (South America, Australia, part of Africa) and have south-facing windows, they receive the least amount of light, so in that case, you may want to consider grow lights.
Seasonal changes and lack of light in the winter can also prompt you to use grow lights to supplement the amount of light your indoor plants typically receive during other seasons.

Outdoor plants might receive light energy from the sun, but indoor plants must be provided with a proper light source with the help of LED light grow lights.
Size Of The Led Light
Users who prefer to purchase an LED grow light should select the appropriate LED lamp according to the size of the tent or room in which they have placed all the plants. This is because an LED light with less power can serve smaller rooms. At the same time, an LED light with high energy and strips can provide high-intensity light for bigger rooms. It is better to purchase LED lights by looking at the user manual and recommended room size.

When choosing a grow light, there are some factors to consider when deciding which is best for you.
Power
The amount of power consumed by your grow lights is one consideration to factor. Grow lights have different wattages, which equate to the amount of electricity you consume. And while LED grow lights are still energy efficient, this should still be a consideration. You would want to consume less while growing in a small footprint.
Spectrum
There are grow lights that work for a particular stage of plant growth. You’ll see grow lights classified for vegetation and flowering. If you’re growing herbs or any other leafy plant, you won’t need a grow light with a spectrum meant for flowering.
Now, if you’re growing crops, that’s where you’ll need the flowering spectrum. That would mean having vegetation and flowering grow lights in your grow space. The good news is that many grow lights offer a full spectrum to handle both stages of plant development.
In this guide, we have tried to highlight the importance of different grow lights for your plants.
There is no doubt that even with artificial light, we can grow the plants of our choice and ensure that they are properly maintained in the long run.
The latest generation of LED grow lights are designed to be extremely energy efficient, with some models using up to 90% less energy than traditional grow lights.
Additionally, LED lights have a longer lifespan than other types of lights, with some models lasting up to 50,000 hours.
Additionally, LED grow lights can be customized to the specific needs of different plants and growth stages, allowing precise control of light intensity and wavelength.
Finally, LED grow lights are more cost-effective in the long run because they require fewer replacements and have lower energy costs.

Materials
Durability is key when selecting your new lighting rig. A good quality lamp will be around for at least a decade.
And with products that last longer, you can invest more into them. Electrical Output and Consumption
Your LED hydroponic grow light will need to be on for around 10–11 hours a day. Depending on your hydroponic unit, you’ll want to ensure that your unit is drawing the least amount of power.
Low Heat
LED lights that get too hot will damage themselves and the plants. You need to be sure that the unit is pumping out the least amount of heat.
And if it does overheat, the heating management system should do its job well.
Space and Plants
A major factor will also be the space you’re growing your plants in.
Spaces with little to no ventilation will cause mold to form on the plants.
And if you share a space with the LED lights, you’ll want to consider noise issues.
Ease of Use and Daisy Chain
Your LED hydroponic grow lights need to be simple to operate. Otherwise you won’t utilize all the great features.
Ease of use also extends to installation. An easy to install unit is one that gets to work faster.
For ambitious growers, you will want the option to expand your grow project. Make sure you’re happy with the amount of units you can link up to one another.
